Weather radar is essentially a new tool in the science of meteorology. Weather radar is also an ever changing tool as well. With new radar types on the horizon, the ability to detect precipitation and more accurately determine what type of precipitation and how heavy the precipitation. This will aid in creating more accurate weather forecasts and increase the detection of severe weather while decreasing the number of false alarms.
Over the years, weather radar has changed our lives. 50 years ago the concept of issuing a tornado warning without having someone there witnessing it was unthinkable. Many times a year now tornado warnings are issued on what the radar detects.
